Privacy Policy

Overview

Marathon Coach helps you train for races using plans built on this device and, with your permission, personalized adjustments from our AI coaching service.

Data we collect on your device

With your explicit permission, Marathon Coach reads the following from Apple Health on your iPhone:

• Workouts (running and walking): distance, duration, date
• Heart rate during workouts and resting heart rate
• Running dynamics when recorded on Apple Watch (stride, ground contact time, power)
• Sleep analysis and related recovery signals
• Walking steadiness and gait metrics when available

We collect this data by querying Apple Health after you grant access in the iOS permission dialog. We do not write data to Apple Health in the current version. We do not collect GPS routes or raw Health exports.

Data we send to our servers

If you enable AI coaching and opt in during onboarding or Settings, Marathon Coach sends summarized training metrics (not raw GPS tracks or full Health exports) to our servers at api.marathoncoach.app to generate and adjust your training plan.

Summary data may include:

• 30-day run summaries (distance, duration, pace)
• Weekly mileage totals
• Heart rate and running dynamics aggregates
• Sleep and recovery signals
• Your goal profile (race date, distance, target time, training level)

Third-party AI provider

Plan generation and adjustments are processed using the third-party AI provider xAI (x.ai). Your summarized training data is transmitted to Marathon Coach servers first; those servers then invoke xAI to produce coaching output. xAI processes your data only to provide AI coaching for Marathon Coach and is contractually required to protect your data with safeguards comparable to ours. We do not sell your personal data.

How we use your data

• Build and display your training plan on your device
• Sync completed runs for progress and adherence tracking
• Generate AI plan adjustments when you enable AI coaching
• Schedule workouts to Apple Watch via WorkoutKit
• Verify Marathon Coach Pro entitlement (via Apple StoreKit) so Pro coaching features unlock only for active subscribers

Subscriptions and payments (Marathon Coach Pro)

Marathon Coach offers an optional auto-renewable subscription (Marathon Coach Pro) through the Apple App Store (In-App Purchase). Payment is charged to your Apple ID. We do not collect or store your full payment card number on our servers. Apple processes the transaction and provides the app with subscription status and a signed transaction token so we can unlock Pro features and enforce free vs Pro access on our plan-engine API.

Free features (race plan, Health sync, Watch scheduling, weekly AI review when you open the app, share cards) work without a subscription. Pro unlocks daily AI review, recovery and post–key workout adjustments, and background plan refresh while entitled. Manage or cancel in Apple ID → Subscriptions (or Settings → Subscription in the app). Restore Purchases uses your Apple ID entitlements — no separate Marathon Coach account is required for iOS Pro.

Device identifier

Marathon Coach mints a device-scoped identifier on first launch and stores it on your device. We send this identifier to our servers at api.marathoncoach.app when you enable AI coaching (plan-engine requests) and when you submit in-app feedback, so we can authenticate requests and follow up on support messages. It is not linked to your Apple ID, not used for advertising, and not sold to third parties.

iCloud backup

If you enable iCloud backup in Settings, Marathon Coach mirrors your training plan and goal profile to Apple's iCloud Key-Value Store so you can restore after reinstalling the app. Apple Health workouts are not backed up to iCloud — they remain in HealthKit on your device. You can disable iCloud backup or delete all app data at any time in Settings.

In-app feedback

When you submit feedback from the in-app rating prompt, Marathon Coach sends your star rating, optional comment, app version, build number, and a device-scoped identifier to api.marathoncoach.app so our team can respond. Feedback is delivered by email to our support inbox and is not used for AI plan generation unless you separately enable AI coaching.

Diagnostics

With AI coaching enabled, Marathon Coach may send anonymized crash and hang diagnostics (via Apple MetricKit) and operational events to help us improve reliability. Diagnostics do not include raw Health exports or GPS routes.

Website analytics and performance

Our marketing website (including the blog) uses Vercel Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights to measure page views and Core Web Vitals (load performance). These tools are designed to be privacy-friendly: they do not use advertising cookies for cross-site tracking and aggregate traffic rather than building marketing profiles for third-party ads. Data is processed by Vercel as our website host. You can learn more in Vercel's documentation for Analytics and Speed Insights.

Retention and deletion

Training plans and goal profiles are stored on your device. Server-side plan-engine requests are processed to generate coaching output; we do not retain raw Health exports. You can delete all local data in Settings → Delete all local data, which also clears cached AI prompts, pending feedback uploads, and revokes device tokens. To request deletion of server-side records, email support@getmarathoncoach.com.

Your choices and rights

• Use a local plan only by keeping AI coaching disabled in Settings.
• Revoke AI consent at any time in Settings — this clears pending AI jobs, cached tokens, and on-device AI response cache.
• Change Apple Health permissions in the Health app.
• Export your plan and goal as JSON from Settings → Backup.
• Request deletion of server-side records by emailing contact@getmarathoncoach.com.

If you are in the EEA, UK, or California, you may have additional rights to access, correct, or delete personal data. Contact us at the email above and we will respond within applicable legal timeframes.

Children's privacy

Marathon Coach is not directed at children under 13 (or the applicable age in your region). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

International transfers

If you enable AI coaching, summarized data may be processed in the United States by our infrastructure and our contracted AI service provider. We rely on appropriate safeguards for cross-border transfers as required by applicable law.

We do not sell your data

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your health data for third-party advertising. Optional AI sharing is entirely under your control.
